Over 80,000 mustangs and wild burros inhabit public lands in the United States. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) oversees 177 herds across North America. However, these areas can only support about 27,000 animals with sufficient food. Each year, thousands of mustangs are captured and taken to rescue centers to control their population and prevent starvation due to food scarcity. During their stay, the mustangs are vaccinated, dewormed, and chipped. Annually, approximately 8,000 wild mustangs are placed into private hands through sale and adoption.
What makes the Mustang so special? Clearly, natural selection!
This means that mustangs are not bred through selective breeding programs, but rather through the natural competition of wild stallions. The harsh environment they inhabit ensures that only the strong, healthy, and well-built survive.
Wild horses may not appear impressive at first glance, but they are, in many ways, the best horses. The wilderness leaves them no other choice. As a result, they possess unparalleled intelligence, endurance, and overall resilience. If you adopt a BLM Mustang that has lived in the wild for several years, you can be confident you are getting a healthy, sure-footed horse that is well-socialized.
However, when you buy a horse that was not conceived and born in the wild, natural selection is disrupted. Wild horses are socialized within herds with functional hierarchies. Their exceptional intelligence comes from having to use their senses from birth and making good decisions to survive. They develop stamina by constantly searching for food, which requires them to walk many kilometers daily.
Horses that reach their third year of life are not only resilient but also possess strong characters. That's why it puzzles me when people pay 10,000 Euros or more for a so-called "Mustang" that was born in Germany and is therefore no longer a true Mustang. I also question why these horses are bred, as this doesn't aid the real mustangs in rescue centers.
By the way, a true BLM Mustang can always be identified by its freeze mark. No freeze mark on the left side of the neck means it's not a BLM Mustang!
For approximately 15,000 USD, we aim for less, our program can bring your BLM Mustang to Europe healthy and stress-free. The price is transparent, with the exact amount determined by the training time, departure date, destination, and exchange rate.
