Advise on how to buy a mustang
Theoretically: Find a horse and buy him, train him for the journey, book a flight, schedule vet care, register the horse for travel, pay fees, transport to airport, find a suitable place in Europe, pick him up from the airport, pay customs and continue training.
Practically: It begins with finding the right horse. Don’t choose based on appearance, but rather on age, size, gender, and the discipline you’re looking for. Have an experienced mustang handler assist you in finding the right one. Not every wild horse can or should be gentled! Most important, prepare your mustang for the journey!
Important note: Ride the Brand is not affiliated with Mustang Makeover or any other competition! I want to emphasize this because my approach to buying, training, and owning a mustang is entirely different.
I only work with one BLM station that has a competent and effective process. Your horse will be optimally prepared for the journey with no time pressure, contesting, commercial pressure, or stress—neither for your horse nor for you!
I act as an intermediary and live partially in Arizona and developed a fixed package in collaboration with the BLM, trainers and my equine transport expert.

What is the difference between adopting and buying a mustang?
Your horse can be adopted for free, with the US government providing the adopter $1,000 after one year. However, only after this year can the horse be flown out of the country.
Alternatively, you can buy a Mustang directly from the BLM, with prices starting at $125. It's a misconception that only unwanted horses are for sale. Our BLM agent decides whether a selected horse is “sales eligible,” and due to full holding facilities, this is often the case.
The initial cost to buy a mustang is low, but additional fees for preparing and importing a mustang to Europe will add up.

How much does it cost to bring a mustang to Europe with Ride the Brand?
Approximately 15,000 USD, our program ensures your BLM mustang is brought to Europe healthy and stress-free. The price will be transparent and we aim for less! The exact amount will be determined prior to booking based on the departure date, destination, exchange rate and availability.
Our package includes:
- A purchased mustang with sales papers and a chip
- Placement fee
- Gentling and preparation training for a safe trip
- Transport
- Vet services and blood work
- Hoof care
- Horse Registration for travel
- Flight
- Paperwork and customs
From the moment your horse leaves the BLM facility until he arrives at your home, the process takes ideally three months. Each horse is different and we will give them the time they need to be ready for the trip!
During this time, you can follow your horse's journey virtually or visit in person at any time.
If space allows, you may accompany your horse on the flight to Europe at no extra cost.
